How to Get Rid of Wrinkles Around the Mouth

Wrinkles Around the Mouth

Wrinkles are something that everyone will have to deal with at some point in their lives. While many people will try to ward off the visible signs of aging with expensive surgical and cosmetic procedures, such as Botox, in order to try and conceal their cosmetic flaws, the truth of the matter is that wrinkles are an inevitable part of life.

What’s more, you don’t have to turn to expensive cosmetic procedures, serums, or creams to get rid of wrinkles around the mouth. Instead, you can reduce wrinkles by making some quick and easy lifestyle changes. Here, we will focus on how you can get rid of wrinkles around the mouth without breaking the bank.

How do you get wrinkles around the mouth?

The truth is there are many factors that can cause wrinkles to form around the mouth. For instance, wrinkles may be linked to your age, as well as your gender, and your genetics. There are also environmental factors that may be the primary culprit, such as prolonged sun exposure, excessive smoking and/or drinking, and even your beauty regime.

For instance, due to the skin structure of women’s mouths, they are more likely than men to develop wrinkles around their mouths. In addition, if you are a smoker then you are at an increased risk for premature wrinkles, as smoking increases muscle movement around the mouth. Some experts even claim that excessive kissing may also lead to premature wrinkles, albeit the evidence is anecdotal at best.

Are there different types of mouth wrinkles?

Yes, there are several types of mouth wrinkles that you should be aware of. The first are laugh lines, which create parenthesis around the upper lip, and are sometimes referred to as nasolabial folds.

Lip lines are another type of wrinkle, which will form lines that are vertical hatches near the perimeter of your mouth. Marionette lines will vertically frame your chin, and as you droop your cheeks, jowl wrinkles will begin to form.

There are also dynamic wrinkles to worry about, and they form due to repetitive facial movements. For example, if you enjoy sipping drinks by puckering your lips around a straw then lip lines may eventually form.

Yet another wrinkle type to look for are static wrinkles, and they are caused by the power of gravity and the loss of elasticity as we age. A good example of static wrinkles is the ones that come with jowls.

How to Reduce Wrinkles Around the Mouth

  1. A healthy diet

The first area to focus on is dietary changes. That is, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology in 2018, a healthy diet was found to be correlated with fewer overall wrinkles. The study analyzed over 2,300 women and found that diets that were rich in fruits were linked with fewer wrinkles over diets that were laden with salty snacks and meats.

If you want to keep the elastin and collagen in your body in optimal shape then you should try and incorporate many antioxidant-rich foods into your diet, such as carrots, broccoli, and berries.

  1. Exercise your face muscles

You may also want to try and exercise your face by performing some face tightening exercises when you have some free time. For example, if you have 15 minutes to spare then you can perform some facial exercises in front of your mirror every day in order to conceal the appearance of wrinkles, particularly deep wrinkles, around your mouth.

Begin by stretching your mouth as wide as humanly possible, so that it appears as if you are saying “cheese” towards a camera. Next, hold that stance for 2 seconds and then proceed to pucker your lips together very tightly so that your lips are in close proximity to your nostrils.

Proceed to hold the second pose for 2 seconds as well, then stretch your mouth back to the first pose. Once 2 seconds have elapsed, stretch your lips forward and down, then hold this pose for 2 seconds as well. Finally, relax, and then repeat the aforementioned routine about 20 times, which should take you roughly 15 minutes in total to complete.

  1. Adjust your lifestyle

As we have previously mentioned smoking will accelerate the natural aging process of your skin and will also cause very noticeable deep wrinkles around your face and mouth. You can reduce deep wrinkles by cutting back on smoking, or quitting altogether. In fact, if stopped early, you may be able to prevent deep wrinkles from forming altogether.

Prolonged sun exposure can also lead to wrinkle formation around your mouth, so if you like to tan at the beach then you should apply some sunblock to your entire face to prevent the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun from either worsening the existing wrinkles near your mouth or to prevent facial wrinkles from forming in the first place.

  1. Anti-aging treatments

Finally, if all else fails, then you may want to turn to topical or retinol treatments that work to augment elastin and collagen levels in order to help reduce wrinkles around the mouth. For instance, you can buy some grape seed extract at a local drug store and apply it to your face to help treat your deep facial wrinkles.

The reason why we would suggest grape seed extract is due to its very potent antioxidant properties. The end result is the routine application of grape seed extract will help restore elasticity to skin that has become wrinkled due to natural or environmental factors.

We would also suggest that you apply the extract once per day to help keep your skin looking its healthiest and youngest. There are also many over the counter creams that are designed to treat and/or prevent wrinkles from forming around the mouth. Apart from this, you can use dermal fillers to restore volume to the cheeks and corners of the mouth.

Many are also very affordable, especially when compared to some of the prescription medications that are available, as well as some of the more invasive professional anti-wrinkle treatments.
